Proudly made in the USA, the new Pro-Comp
suspension lift kit for the '99-'01 four wheel drive Chevrolets has
barely had a chance to hit the shelves of your local 4 Wheel Parts
store. As a matter of fact, the ORC Silverado was the first truck
to receive the new lift.

In stock form, there is absolutely no way this
truck would even consider rolling though the rugged Black
Mountain. |
In choosing what type of lift to purchase, think
about what you do from day to day. If you drive down a freeway 50
miles daily, then maybe you will want to think more in the 4" range
or less, with an all terrain tire.
If you live down a 2 mile,
rocky dirt road in the middle of the desert, then maybe you should
go with the 6" lift and 35" mud terrain tires.
Fuel economy was a major factor in the selection of the lift
and tire combination. The ORC Silverado makes too many trips to hot
spot riding areas in the SoCal and Baja regions to fully justify
the 35" tires. But when we are finally reach our destination, there
is typically some rough terrain that is necessary to navigate
through. With the previously mentioned factors, we decided on the
Pro-Comp All Terrain 305/70/16 tires with the Pro-Comp Explorer 6" lift. We believed that for what the truck is going to be used for,
these were our best options.
Time for
the Install
9:00 a.m., the ORC Silverado arrived at the Las Vegas 4 Wheel Parts store, to begin the total re-vamp of the stock suspension. Brian, the shop foreman,
was the man in charge for the suspension kit install. "This is the
third one that we've done here at this store....this kit just hit
the shelves, " Brian explained. As a matter of fact, the truck
right next to the ORC machine, was receiving the same Pro-Comp
kit.

The guys at 4 Wheel Parts in Las Vegas know
what they're doing, and are there to help you out, trust me on that
one. |
"They pretty much have to gut the entire underside
of the truck to install the Pro-Comp kit," stated Ryan, one of the
helpful guys behind the parts counter. Ryan said that probably
because of the look on my face when they got out the grinder, drill
and acetylene torch! But these guys really know what they are
doing, and they work efficiently and hard.
I'm going to show you the basic steps in what it takes to
install the 6" suspension kit on a 4 wheel drive Silverado, BUT
unless you really know what you are doing, and have all of the
necessary tools and equipment to do the job, don't try it yourself.
It took shop foreman, Brian Forest a FULL day...and he knows what
he's doing. Intelligently spend the $550 to have the guys at 4
Wheel Parts install it for you. They do it everyday, six days a
week....and remember, practice makes perfect.
We tried as hard as we could to stay out of their way with the
intention of shooting as many install photos as we
could.....
