Like I said, the below
photo-illustrated install is just a rough guideline of what it
takes to install the 6" suspension kit. This procedure really
should be done by a professional who is experienced in a process
such as this. To give you an idea of the complexity, the
instructional manual is over 40 pages, of solid text and
illustrations!
|
To start off, shop foreman Brian
Forest, set all the parts out on a table, making sure that
everything was present and accounted for, and that means matching
up every nut and bolt! |
|
|
The best way to go about this entire process
is to elavate the truck on a hoist. It could be done on jack
stands, but its just not advised, at all. After removing the
wheels, the torsion bars were the first item of
removal. |
|
Next, unbolt the CV shafts from the
differential. From there, remove the sway bar, tie rods ends (from
the spindle), and front driveline. Once all the necessary bolts are
removed, remove the entire the a-arm assembly. |
|
|
Here's where you need the tools of
dismemberment! At this point, you will have to cut the crossmember
underneath the front differential in order to drop it down and get
it out of the way.To allow for clearance of the shocks and the new
placement of the differential, the control arm mounting brackets
need to be cut and trimmed. |
|
Once all the cutting is done, its is necessary
to 'box in' the mounting flange, via a high quality wire feed
welder, such as a Miller. This provides for sufficient
strength. |
|
|
Now for the time consuming part of bolting up
the new Pro-Comp front cross member. The new crossmember needs to
be positioned in place. Once it is aligned, it is necessary to mark
the points where the new holes will be drilled. |
