Kawasaki
Motors Corp., U.S.A., has unveiled yet another all-new, mid-size
Prairie? all-terrain vehicle (ATV) which is due to arrive at
Kawasaki dealerships in the fall of 2002.
Based on the Prairie 360 4x4, the two-wheel drive Prairie 360
features the same chassis, engine and automatic transmission as
its four-wheel drive sibling, and includes the sealed,
oil-bathed, multi-disc rear brake system first seen on the
Prairie 650 4x4, Kawasaki's sport utility ATV flagship.
Vince Iorio, ATV marketing manager of Kawasaki's ATV and Utility
Vehicle division, said the Prairie 360 represents Kawasaki's
commitment to offering consumers the most technologically
advanced, comfortable and reliable ATVs possible.
"We're introducing some of the best ATVs the industry has
ever seen," said Iorio. "Kawasaki is also doing
something unique by offering consumers technology normally found
only on big-bore models. The Prairie 360 has the power, comfort,
control and convenience that make it perfect for those who enjoy
outdoor recreation, as well as those in the agricultural
community who need a hard-working ATV that's dependable and
comfortable."
Powering the Prairie 360 is a 362cc, air-cooled, single-overhead
cam, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. Designed as an all-new
powerplant for the Prairie 360-series ATVs, it produces more
torque than the Kawasaki Prairie 300 it replaces, yet it weighs
significantly less.
Technology from the Prairie 650 4x4 has trickled down to the
transmission and running gear of the new Prairie 360 in that it
utilizes the same KAPS continuously variable transmission and
Kawasaki Engine Brake Control (KEBC?). KEBC uses engine
compression to help slow the ATV in technical maneuvers such as
crawling over rocks or descending steep downgrades. The gear
selector, which features high and low range plus reverse, has
also been borrowed from the Prairie 650 4x4 and is conveniently
located adjacent to the 3.5-gallon fuel tank. Dependable
shaftdrive transfers power to the rear wheels.
As with other Prairie ATVs, the chassis of the Prairie 360
enhances Kawasaki's reputation for designing smooth-riding,
light-steering ATVs. Front suspension duties are handled by
supple yet sturdy MacPherson struts with 6.7 inches of travel,
while a sporty, single-shock aluminum swingarm with 7.0 inches
of travel is mounted at the rear.
Stopping power for the Prairie 360 is provided by dual, floating
front disc brakes that are assisted by Kawasaki's exclusive,
sealed, oil-bathed, multi-disc system on the rear. As an
integrated part of the aluminum swingarm and shaft drive, the
sealed braking system provides superior stopping power yet
requires minimal maintenance because it is protected from water,
mud, dust and debris.
Comfort features on the Prairie 360 include a full-sized saddle
and full-sized floorboards with adjustable serrated footpegs.
The Prairie 360 has large cargo racks that can carry a combined
weight of 242 pounds. It can also tow 1,100 pounds-the most in
its class. Powerful dual halogen headlights brighten the pathway
for nighttime riding, and the Prairie 360 rides on 12-inch
wheels at all four corners to enhance ride quality.
Available in new Aztec Red or traditional Hunter Green, the
Prairie 360 has a suggested retail price of $4,599 and comes
with a six-month warranty that can be extended up to three
additional years.
Information about the Prairie 360 and Kawasaki's complete line
of family recreational products can be found on the Internet at
www.Kawasaki.com. Kawasaki ATV accessories can also be purchased
online at www.BuyKawasaki.com.
As with all off-highway recreation, Kawasaki encourages ATV
riders to ride responsibly. Kawasaki will pay first-time ATV
buyers of a new Kawasaki ATV $100 for completing an ATV rider
safety course conducted by the ATV Safety Institute (call
toll-free 800-887-2887).
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., is the wholesale distributor of
JET SKI? watercraft, ATVs, MULE? utility vehicles, portable
generators, power products, and motorcycles. The product lines
are sold through a network of independent retailers. The company
employs more than 600 people in the United States, with nearly
400 of them located at the Irvine, Calif., headquarters.

The
two-wheel drive Prairie 360 mid-size ATV is perfect for farming
and outdoor recreation. It is powered by an air-cooled, SOHC,
four-stroke, single-cylinder engine and utilizes a continuously
variable transmission, so no shifting is required once high or
low range or reverse is selected. Plus, Kawasaki Engine Brake
Control (KEBC?) uses the engine's compression to help slow the
ATV.
The
Prairie 360 delivers power to the rear wheels via dependable
shaft drive, while stopping power is provided by dual front disc
brakes and Kawasaki's exclusive, sealed, oil-bathed, multi-disc
rear brake system. Other features include MacPherson strut front
suspension, swingarm rear suspension, and cargo racks that can
carry 242 pounds. The Prairie 360 can also tow 1,100 pounds.

" Dual front disc brakes provide superior stopping power to
the front wheels; Kawasaki's exclusive, sealed, oil-bathed
multi-disc rear brake system provides superior rear braking
power yet requires practically no maintenance and is protected
from mud, dust, debris and water.
