Great Scott! The timeless Back to the Future movie is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and Toyota is marking the occasion with number of cool events and activities. Today actually marks a particularly important date in the Back to The Future trilogy, as October 21, 2015, is the exact date the Delorean sends Martin Seamus, A.K.A. Marty McFly, into the future in Back to the Future II.
Although Toyota has activities planned in New York and Dallas, arguably the coolest thing Toyota is doing is unveiling a recreated version of Marty McFly’s pickup truck in modernized fashion using the 2016 Tacoma. Today at Hollywood and Highland in Los Angeles, Toyota is unveiling a vintage-modern version of Marty’s truck using the all-new Tacoma as the inspiration.
The truck features all of the modern updates found on the new Tacoma, such as its new 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 engine that produces 42 more horsepower than the previous V6, Toyota’s off-highway CRAWL system, and its segment-best 29-degree approach angle, it also feature other updates such as KC HiLiTES lighting, 17-inch aluminum TRD wheels, and BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Yet, with all the modern amenities, Toyota managed to retain the cool vintage feel of the truck, such as the blocked TOYOTA letters on the tailgate, the vintage KC light covers, and of course the 4WD mud flaps.
Toyota’s Back to the Future Tacoma is definitely pretty cool, and, no pun intended, we expect to see more of it in the near future. For now, at least we know Marty can make his escape - wherever that may be - in this fully capable Tacoma. So make like a tree … and get out of here.
