Preparation
As
always, disconnect the battery leads to prevent inadvertent shorts.
Loosen the bottom bolts and bracket bolts for your
stock alternator.
Remove the stock alternator belt.
Disconnect all wires to the stock alternator.
Remove the stock alternator.
Remove the existing alternator bracket, but leave
the adjusting arm in place.
Retain the mounting hardware.
Assembly
Mount
the new alternator bracket using the supplied hardware and hex wrench.
Place the GM alternator in position in the bracket.
Crawl
under the vehicle and insert the new lower pivot bolt through the
alternator and bracket. Snug the nylock nut onto the bolt, but don't
tighten the assembly down yet.
Swing the alternator into position and re-use the
existing top bolt from your stock alternator to attach it through the
adjusting arm. Again, don't tighten the bolt down all the way just yet.
Once you've got the alternator in rough position,
slip the new belt into place on the pulleys, then tension the belt as you
normally would.
Tighten
the alternator top bolt and adjusting arm bolt.
Re-check the tension on the belt. If all is well,
crawl back under the car and tighten the bottom pivot bolt securely.
Plug the supplied pig-tail lead into the back of the
alternator and into the existing wiring harness connector from the stock
alternator.
Connect the other lead to the alternator's output
post, and thread it into position in the engine compartment.
Reconnect
the negative and positive terminals of the battery.
Connect the new alternator's lead to the battery
positive terminal.
Fire up the truck and check out the steady new
power! |
