Dodge powered by ATS Diesel Performance - August 2003 Dodge Ram at Off-Road.com
Las Vegas, Nevada: It seems like only yesterday that Team ORC was heading north to the mountain town of Wheatridge, Colorado, where we paid a visit to the ATS Diesel Performance Team. However, it's been six-months since Clint Cannon and his ATS Diesel Performance crew, www.atsdiesel.com , installed the ATS Diesel Performance Stage IV system into the Off-Road.com Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 24-valve Cummins Diesel engine and the ATS Tranmission. And now 6-months later, we are ready to announce what we at Off-Road.com have discovered after 30,000 miles of tortuous terrain. Let's just say that if you're not rolling down the road, whether rock, dirt or asphalt, protected by ATS Diesel Performance transmission, then you are running the risk of real adventure.
Not only have we tested this machine in the wilds of the Baja California Peninsula, but we have toted a heavy 30' fifth wheel loaded with an off-road car inside the trailer for miles and miles across the Western Slope of the United States. This trailer has housed the MotoSat Mobile Satellite System that Off-Road.com uses to uplink images, content and video to the main servers in the Las Vegas, Nevada. It's been to every event that we have covered in the past 6 months. Nonetheless, the ATS Diesel Performance Stage IV transmission has been pressed into what we describe as "severe service."
TripleLok? Torque Converter: One of the key elements that we have noticed in the Off-Road.com Dodge Cummins Diesel truck is the ability to lock up the torque converter. No doubt that ATS Diesel Performance TripleLok? torque converter was designed and built to tackle the biggest mountains in the West - therefore you can be confident it will handle any load on any terrain. Off-Road.com has tried and tested the TripleLok Torque Converter on the highest mountains in the West, loaded to the gills, and we can provide our personal testimony that it has handled the toughest and baddest hills in the United States. The TripleLok Torque Converter installed in the ORC Desert Tank and has been extremely successful in keeping the power to the asphalt. Towing our heavy trailer throughout the West has been nothing but a breeze since replacing the stock torque converter with the TripleLok. TripleLok?gets your power to the ground with a heavy duty machined billet cover to eliminate warping, an innovative triple-disc clutch design to eliminate slippage (without increasing line pressure) and an optimized CNC machined stator to get you off the line faster when pulling heavy loads. TripleLok? has twice the surface area and handles
three times thetorque our leadingcompetitor and is designed to maximize
exhaust brake performance. TripleLok? has been
in research and development for over two years and has excelled not only
the documented testing by John Wind, but we at Off-Road.com have completed
our own documented testing pulling extreme loads up and down hills
throughout the West.
What's amazing with the ATS Diesel Performance transmission is the actual true performance we attain using this product. There is nothing like being saddled behind the wheel of a big heavy truck towing a big heavy trailer. What Team ORC will tell you, is that the ATS Diesel Performance Transmissions and TripleLok Torques converters work. And they work well. Every single attribute that ATS Diesel Performance Founder-Clint Cannon said this Stage IV transmission would do, it has done. Each particular detail that Service Manager-Mike Meineke told Team ORC about has performed as if Mike was programming it from the backseat. ATS Diesel Performance just plain works! We constantly have pulled countless hills at only 2200 rpm passing all the others without a strain. We have also mashed the pedal to the floorboard and ran it at 2800 rpm to fly by the "problem childs" of the American highways. And the ATS Diesel Performance Stage IV Transmission has led the way. This is not an info-commercial friends. We have put this transmission through the ultimate test. For instance: Beginning in January 2003, we immediately put the ATS Diesel Performance to a several thousand mile road trip after returning to Las Vegas from Wheatridge, Colorado. We trounced to the Glamis sand dunes countless times throughout the winter months in search of the next Robbie Gordon. We have put severe service on this ATS Diesel Performance transmission and torque converter and it continues to perform.
In March 2003, we covered multiple events ranging from Baja California to the hills of Utah. And we covered over several hundred miles of dirt road in a 5-day period surrounding the SCORE San Felipe off-road desert race and then pre-ran a 606-mile loop in the pouring rain, mud, sleet, and more preparing for the Baja Express Adventure in May 2003. Imagine being in the middle of the Baja Peninsula in the heavy pouring rain, over 150 miles from the nearest Mexican assistance, which isn't much to speak of, and your trodding along on slick, deep, mud-soaked dirt roads in four-wheel drive-low gear. ATS Diesel Performance proved during that trip that they have indeed built a "Baja Proven" high performance diesel transmission and torque converter. In April 2003, we completed a 5000+ mile road trip that circled six states over the span of two and a half weeks towing the ORC Sat Trailer.
In May 2003, we led 20+ off-road motocyclists and ATV riders over a 606-mile off-road trip throughout the Baja California Peninsula. The Dodge Ram "Desert Tank" was used as the primary support vehicle and traveled the same route as the off-road vehicles. During the entire trip, the truck was loaded with supplies and gear and towed along a single-axle Sportsmobile 4WD trailer that was loaded. The Sportsmobile trailer has a multi-action pivoting 4WD hitch that allows the trailer to keep any tension off of the truck frame. At one point, we traversed a 200 foot embankment that was near 25 degree angle downhill. In 4WD low, the ATS Diesel Performance Transmission creeped the truck and 4WD Sportsmobile off-road trailer down the hill. Once at the bottom, it was necessary for the ATS Diesel Performance transmission to extract us from the 7-foot berm built up at the bottom. Again, no problem!!! Only days later, upon our return to the United States, we serviced the truck, loaded the trailer and headed out for another 5000-mile trip across the West covering live events throughout the America's off-road venues. Towing days and nights, the ATS Diesel Performance transmission led the way for another successful trip. And in between all that, we continue to be on the move daily to the many off-road areas West of the Mississippi in search of the latest in the off-road world. The lists of trips goes on and on and on. If you want the best in tranmission performance for your Dodge, Ford or Chevrolet, visit www.atsdiesel.com and take a trip through a company that has a proven track record with the best product on the market.
