AJ Built Off Road Protection

Sep. 01, 2000 By Sean Stratton

Their are a few companies that manufacture off road protection for Tacomas, but their are also a number of people who make custom products on their free time, like AJ.

AJ covers different styles of sliders and rear bumpers.  The sliders are made of 2x2x 120 wall tubing.  The Extended cab Sliders are 80in. long and stick out from the frame 13in., giving a nice step at the same time as a very functional rock slider to protect the rocker panels.  The regular cab model is 64in. long and also stick about 13in.

The two models of sliders are Double and Single bar.  The Double bars seem to be the most popular as you can tell in the different pictures.  Only the Double bars will allow someone to use a hi-lift jack as shown in the pictures.  The Single sliders can be bolted to the frame but the Doubles must be welded.  The price for the Single bar is $150 and for the Double bars it is $225.

AJ Also makes rear bumpers. They are made out of 1/4in. think steel and come standard with 2 "V" rings and a hitch receiver with a built in flip up license plate holder.   The bumper also comes with two recessed back up lights.  Also featured on some models are fold down steps which cost extra.  Images for the fold down steps will be available at a later date.  The rear bumper runs $250 and the steps are $40 extra.

For the rear bumpers AJ also offers an extra ad on for the rear end rocker panels on the bed for protection from rocks when the bumper or tires cannot prevent body damage.  The price is not yet determined for this, E-mail AJ for more information regarding this.

AJ is also in the process of fabricating up a custom ARB/TJM front bumper which will be worked on in the next few weeks.  Expect pictures of the front bumper at a later date also.

If you can make it to Sacramento CA, AJ does free weld on instillation for his sliders.
