Project Gone Titan - Part 4

Protecting our Project Titan with Herculiner

PROTECTION: HERCULINER APPLICATION

My next brainstorm was to protect along the side of the truck from the off-road elements. The desert pin striping were taking it’s toll visually and debris flying up from tire spin were chipping away at the lower door panel/fenders. Once again, we can’t all be blessed like the jeep guys , and have a plethora of aftermarket candy. I am amazed at the factory applied polyurethane liner that came from Nissan. So after a boring Monday football game I drove to the nearest auto parts store and purchased a gallon kit of black Herculiner. This was a roll on kit that included instructions, liner, scratch pad, and roll brushes. The box informed me of buying a can of acetone and protective gloves. I made sure the garage was ventilated with consistent fresh air via fan. With a good friend over for the game and a curious neighbor. I persuade them into assisting me with my wild hair.

I lay out the desired outline in painters tape, I go for a sporty avalanche look, made sure to measure angles and lines so both sides match

Next instructions suggest the applied area is to be firmly scrubbed with acetone bath

Follow this with a light sanding

Frank trailed Mike with another round of sanding with a course pad, and then one more acetone wipedown for good measure

Now deciding to use a bristle brush for more control, I apply the liner on in a dabbing motion for more of a even yet textured look

Just like in kindergarten, I painted along the borders first and then filled in the voids

Give ample drying time between coats for proper hardening of product

Still had some left after 3 thin coats, pull off outlining tape once complete

I once again went through this procedure after not being satisfied with just one tone. Brian Bohlander from Herculiner kindly sent a smaller amount of the grey which I applied as a smaller pattern on top of the black and matched the lines of the grill onto the new bumper.
