Ford recently unveiled some new details about its 2015 F-150, including performance numbers for two of the engine options for the updated truck.

Although there will be four different engine options on the new F-150, the biggest news came on the all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. The new motor, which will be offered along with the 3.5-liter V6 (for which power numbers have yet to be released), is claimed to produce 325 hp and 375 lb.-ft. of torque. Ford says the maximum tow rating for its 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is 8,500 pounds. Ford also notes that all towing numbers for the 2015 F-150 are certified using SAE J2807 standards.

Ford also released information on the naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6, which will produce 283 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque with a tow rating of 7,600 pounds. As our sister site AutoGuide reports, that puts all three half-tons from Detroit at the same 7,600 maximum tow rating for their naturally aspirated V6 engines.

The Ford-150 will feature a massive shift in its overall construction in 2015, as Ford announced earlier this year that the truck will feature an aluminum body in an effort to shed weight and improve fuel economy. For example, Ford says its 2015 F-150 Lariat weighs 732 pounds less than a 2014 F-150 Lariat, with the ’15 weighing in with a 4,942-pound curb weight. Ford says that roughly 500 pounds of lost weight came from the body of the F-150, while 130 pounds were dropped from the powertrain and another 70 from the frame.

With all of the weight savings, Ford decided to drop its larger 6.2-liter V8 from the F-150 for 2015, instead leaving that for its Super Duty line. Although a 5.0-liter V8 will still be available on the 2015 truck, as well as a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, Ford has not yet released performance information on those engines.
