THE KID GROWS UP - JEREMY SPIRKOFF'S STOCK FULL-SIZED RACE WINNER - AS CLOSE TO PERFECT AS IT GETS

I met Jeremy Spirkoff a long time ago, back in 1987. Then, he was a tall, skinny 16-year-old kid who needed a haircut, and spent most of his spare time working in the famed Spirit Racing shop in El Cajon, California. Jeremy paid his dues, all right. Early chores included sweeping up the shop, helping unload stuff from delivery trucks and responding to things like ..."Hold this while I cut it." Not exactly high tech work, but it was the foundation for things to come. As the years ticked off, Jeremy graduated to other things, like working a chop saw, measuring tubing, learning some basic welding techniques, and he even started prepping race trucks. When his Dad, Steve Spirkoff, figured Jeremy had earned his stripes, he was given the job of prepping the pre-runner truck for the legendary Ivan "Ironman" Stewart. It was during this time frame, that he learned the incredible attention to detail required to get a vehicle ready for an off-road race course. Naturally, Jeremy acquired a truck or two in the years that followed, and he worked some of the Spirit magic into what was essentially basic transportation for him. But his dream was to someday build a real, genuine, hard-core race truck and go racing.

Huge "cow-catcher" front bumper is designed to keep the stock front bumper from getting wasted. Tubing is two inches and heavily gusseted.

Jeremy made all the bumpers slightly over-sized to prevent body damage to the stock sheet metal parts required in the class.

RACING FOR THE KIDS - WINNING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

When Jeremy and Nancy picked up their check for winning their class in the San Felipe 250 race, they knew exactly where the money was going. New wheels? More fast parts for the motor? Nope. The money was turned over to the A.B. & Jessie Polinsky Children's Center, with a smile. In a sport where most of the racers are scrambling for bucks to keep the wheels turning, Jeremy and Nancy find greater satisfaction in helping kids with the odds stacked against them. The Polinsky Center provides a home and services for kids who have been abused or neglected, and/or have no parent or guardian. The home helps all kids, from birth to teenagers, and gives them a stable environment and a dedicated school until they can be placed in a decent home. In addition to giving all their winnings to the Center, they also give ten percent of all the sponsor money they get. Not only are these two a class act, we think they deserve a standing "O" for their unselfish efforts.
