Jul. 25, 2007 By Press Release
click for larger viewAt Oakley, we’ve spent decades creating original works of art that reinvent both technology and style. To celebrate this, we have decided to re-release a style that was important to the history of the brand over twenty years ago when Oakley was a “garage” company. Bringing back a feeling of nostalgia and giving today’s audience the chance to be a part of our history, Oakley is bringing back the Frogskin sunglass.

First introduced in 1985 and originally available in over 50 colors, the Oakley Frogskin sunglass was a part of the 80’s pop culture, a time like no other. Ronald Reagan was in the White House, “The Terminator” was in the box office and Run-D.M.C. was certified gold. We have resurrected the original tooling from the early ’80s to produce new limited editions, giving today’s culture a chance to own a piece of history.

WHY NOW, IN 2007?
The answer is simple; the people who wore them when they were younger really loved the style of the Frogskin and are now in a position of making decisions in the workplace. It’s not simply a re-release of an older sunglass model; it’s a coming of age for many of the youth who loved Frogskins, and who are now making decisions here at Oakley. It’s an exciting release for many of us here who love keeping things fun and young. This product applies to those who appreciate the fine art of innovation; skaters, surfers, musicians, people who are setting the pace in today’s world of style.  You’ll find that many of those who will purchase these newly released Frogskins will be those who owned a pair when they were younger and are amped to have them back.

For each original color combination of this coveted style, only 3,000 Collectors Editions will be produced. This is an opportunity to own a rare retro classic, and once supplies are gone, the window of opportunity will be closed forever.
