The Stone Crusher

Weld's Newest Creation

The StoneCrusher is made a little differently however than the normal forged rims from Weld, in that it is a two piece rim. You see the bead lock ring is one part and the center style of the rim is another. The two parts are fit together, then are welded for a super strong rim. If you look in the photos below you can see the weld in the center, it has tape on it to prevent oxidation of the weld over time. These welds on the rims are definitely made to stand the test of time. You can also see just how thick the bead ring is, it is almost one full inch thick in areas.

Above Left: You can clearly see the thickness of the new bead lock-looking edge. It's there to take a beating!

Above Right: This shows both the open and traditional style conical covers.

The only real option you can get with Weld is on the cover styles. Mostly your going to see the StoneCrusher shown with the conical cover option, but they do make others that fit this, they just won't look as good however. The conical set I got was one that already had a pair drilled out to accept hubs for the front, but the back is traditional style. You can get all 4 in a traditional style if you wish, or all four with the hub holes.

After a good trail ride in Big Bear, I went back to the tire shop to see how I the rims had help up to low tire pressures and I was amazed. I had the rims re-balanced to see if the rim warped at all, and we noticed the rim wasn't even slightly bent. Usually after a Big Bear run tires just don't balance easy due to the rims being slightly out of round. That however, was not the case this time. All in all, you can't buy a stronger rim, or a better looking one at that. With Weld's warranty on the polish and the wheel, you can't get a better investment unless you bought stock in Microsoft 15 years ago. Personally, as a rockcrawler, I can't get enough of this bead lock look, and its nice to know these will be the last set of rims this TJ will ever need.

The StoneCrushers will be available in 15,16, 16.5, and 17 inch rim sizes and all popular bolt patterns including the hard to find 8 lug bolt pattern. Mine are the 15x8s with a 3 5/8 inch back spacing on a standard jeep bolt pattern of 5 on 4.5.

I was also told that Weld is making more bead lock styled rims similar to the StoneCrusher and those will be available soon, watch Weld's web site for more details on that....
