Devol has been making heavy-duty radiator guards
for a long time. The guards are mounted to your frame in front of
your radiator, and behind it as well giving great side and front
coverage. The guards are light and super strong. They offer great
coverage of the radiator from the front and side
After installing the guards you can feel the
strength and support they provide for the radiators.
They are
pretty solid once mounted and it appears they would protect your
radiators from rocks and such very well. Another bonus is they
don't hinder airflow at all. At $83.00
retail price they are more expensive than other forms of radiator
protection, however no other product on the market offers more
support and protection than these babies. These are a must for any
off-road rider. The units are light enough that they would also be
appealing to the MX'er who is looking for a little more protection,
or rides both at the track and on the trails like myself.
The bottom line is Devol's radiator guards will
save you a hefty amount of cash in the form of new radiators. They
might be a little bit of an investment at first, but not nearly as
expensive or frustrating as replacing a caved in radiator.
Devol is notorious for producing extremely tough
products. Their glide plate for MX applications is no
exception.
The plate bolted up with no problems and doesn't
use any "hooks" for mounting. The glide plate covers the frame
rails and is real solid when mounted. While the bolts used to
attach the plate aren't flush mounts, they are recessed and out of
harms way. Snagging a bolt head and getting
it ripped off is generally not a problem on an MX track anyway,
unless you are a complete monster and run over many competitors'
bikes each race.
The plate is a little
heavier than some of the competition, but that's where the strength
comes from. Once again, Devol has made a durable product that
serves its purpose well. You cannot go wrong with this product
especially for the $64.00 price tag.
Do you ride in rocks? This is the plate for
you! This skid plate offers great coverage
at an affordable price. Sharing the mounting system with the glide
plate, the skid plate also is extremely solid once mounted. The
plate covers the frame rails entirely and has wings to protect your
cases.

This skid plate allows you to change your oil
filter without removing the plate. You would be surprised how many
skid plates on the market need to be removed to get to the filter.
It's nice to see there are a few companies who make your life a
little easier, while at the same time offering affordable products
that work. This skid definitely works; it will protect your frame
and cases from most anything you could possibly encounter in the
off-road environment. There is only one
feature I would like to see on this item, that is holes drilled in
the wings to help get some more air to the motor. Some people have
trouble with their CRF boiling over, in these cases your motor
needs all the cooling it can get. You can of course just drill them
yourself, though if you do this, you will see just how tough these
plates really are! As with the glide plate
the skid also would benefit from flush mount bolts. In an off-road
environment you are more apt to snag the bolt head on a rock or
something, but with the recess - you shouldn't have any problems.
At $87.00 you can't ask for a better value - many CRF skids on the
market cost over $100.00 and most won't offer the protection or the
durability of the Devol units. Devol has their act together.
