Designed to
bridge the gap between the KX85 minicycle and the KX125
motocrosser, the Kawasaki KX100 is the best of both off-road
worlds. It's a sizable step up from the potent KX85, thanks to
larger wheels, minor chassis adjustments and increased
displacement. Moreover, the KX100 is the perfect stepping stone
into the big leagues.
The KX100 is
powered by a liquid-cooled, two-stroke engine, with a machined
finish on the bridges between the intake and exhaust ports to
improve engine reliability and resist seizure. With a displacement
of 99cc, the motor breathes through a 28mm carburetor with a
crescent slide to position the needle closer to the intake ports.
A large air intake cutout on the airbox and large-diameter duct to
the carburetor improve airflow. Meanwhile, a carbon-fiber intake
reed valve aids throttle response and a smooth-shifting six-speed
transmission gets the KX100 around the track without missing a
beat.
The KX100's
backbone is a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, which supports a
specially designed gas tank that lowers the fuel load, and in
turn, the center of gravity, for improved handling. Protected by
lime green plastic that wears graphics to match the
larger-displacement models, the frame has a slim symmetric finish
and provides comfortable riding position.
Adjustable
long-travel suspension at both ends ensues smooth riding on even
the roughest motocross courses. The 36mm inverted cartridge fork
has compression damping adjustment capability and the UNI-TRAK
rear shock comes equipped with a fully adjustable shock with
spring preload, compression and rebound damping adjustments. In
the braking department the front brake master cylinder shares the
same knocker-type as the KX125 and KX250 for better feel, and both
front and rear discs are mounted with shoulder bolts for easier
maintenance.
All KX
motorcycles come with the support of Team Green™, Kawasaki's
amateur support program. Each year, Team Green attends more than
100 events across the country, providing regional support vehicles
and highly trained technicians to provide technical information
and assistance for anyone who rides or races a Kawasaki. Kawasaki
also offers a comprehensive contingency program for amateur and
professional riders who place well at designated events.
