KTM chucked the old KTM 125 MX design and
delivered a new and improved 125 MX package in 1990.
Power: The '90 KTM 125 engine was probably the strongest 125 MX engine around. What the bike lacked in low-end power it made up in awesome mid-range power and top-end power! It would rev out hard for a long time!
Suspension: The regular White Power forks were gone! In their place were too softly sprung White Power cartridge forks. Stiffer springs helped put the bike into the fast track. The same problem plagued the White Power shock. It needed a stiffer spring before the rider would feel comfortable riding fast.
Handling: The KTM handled very well, except in soft terrain. There, it seemed the KTM would wander when turning and it certainly did not feel confidence inspiring. The KTM 125 rear will wander a bit on small stutter bumps, thanks to White Power?s inability to figure out how to valve their shocks for American riders.
Reliability: The '90 KTM 125 MX was a reliable bike.
Odds & Ends: The brakes came somewhere, not close, but somewhere near Japanese brake performance. Again, the shifting and clutch action was not on par with the Oriental equipment. The shifting and clutching worked fine, it simply was not smooth and easy. The '90 KTM 125 MX can make a good fun trail/play bike. Keep in mind that the low-end power is rather weak.
