Team Makita Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael clinched his fifth straight victory of the season by taking two race wins at Sunday’s AMA Motocross Championship sixth round at Unadilla Valley in New York.

It was the 26-year-old Floridian’s sixth win at the venue and he extended his lead over Yamaha's Chad Reed to 44 points in the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship standings.

Said Carmichael: "They changed the track and the changes they made were good - it turned out in my favour. I actually fell in the second moto and I'm not sure anyone saw me. I was able to get back up and continue on and it didn't really affect the outcome."

Kawasaki 's James Stewart missed his second race of the season due to injury after a high-speed crash in morning practice.
