Action wraps up at the final TORC race of the year at Bark River

Aug. 09, 2009 By Jeremy and Josh Pyatskowit

Bark River International Raceway and the TORC series presented by Amsoil received another early morning rain shower. Fortunately, Sunday’s rainfall was much less than Saturday’s monsoon for Round 11 and the track was in good shape for an abbreviated morning practice. Following light track prep after practice, it was time to go racing for the second day of TORC racing at Bark River.

Todd LeDuc ate some dirt early but came out on top at the end to take the Pro 2WD victory.

Dan Vanden Heuvel took the lead off the front row in the Pro 2WD race. Todd LeDuc and Jeremy McGrath powered through turn one into second and third. LeDuc moved to the lead in the first lap passing Vanden Heuvel in the Cemetery loop. Scott Taylor also gained a position in the top three after passing McGrath for third in the Cemetery Loop. Vanden Heuvel stuck to LeDuc’s bumper and he got a run in the Back 40 Loop reclaiming the lead. On lap three, Ricky Johnson moved into the top three passing Taylor as they raced onto the front straight. Vanden Heuvel, LeDuc, and Johnson raced in close order to the competition yellow.

On the restart at lap seven, Johnson pushed wide in turn one and Rob MacCachren rode the inside line to take over third. MacCachren closed in on LeDuc over the next lap. Coming out of turn one on lap eight, MacCachren and LeDuc momentarily hooked bumpers, which was just enough for Johnson to sneak by claiming third while LeDuc got back underway to claimg second place. On lap ten, Vanden Heuvel went wide onto the front straight table top losing a lot of momentum. Both LeDuc and Johnson passed Vanden Heuvel as they went up the hill the Cemetery Loop. On the final lap, McGrath passed Vanden Heuvel as they entered the front straight. Vanden Heuvel slid in behind McGrath and bumpers locked for moment swinging both trucks to the outside. MacCachren took advantage passing for third on the inside. At the front, LeDuc got a little breathing room when Johnson had a minor bobble in the Back 40 Loop on the last lap. LeDuc took the win rolling through the final turns unchallenged. Johnson finished in second and MacCachren came back for a third-place finish.

Nobody had anything for Kyle LeDuc as he took another Pro 4x4 win.

Steve Barlow pulled another holeshot in the Pro 4x4 race, and Curt LeDuc led Scott Douglas and the rest of the field into turn one. In the opening lap, Kyle LeDuc got a run by Douglas for third as they headed off the front straight up the hill. Heading into the Back 40 loop, Curt LeDuc spun at the entrance of the turn. Scott Douglas had nowhere to go and collided with LeDuc ending both racer's day. Johnny Greaves passed both moving into third. At the front of the pack, Kyle LeDuc got a run on Barlow through the Back 40 Loop to take over the lead. On lap three, Rick Huseman passed both Barlow and Greaves in the Back 40 moving into second while Barlow continued on in third. Greaves stayed close on Barlow and claimed third on the next lap passing Barlow in the Back 40 loop. LeDuc, Huseman, and Greaves raced in order to the competition yellow.

When the racing restarted, LeDuc shot back out to the front. Huseman and Greaves stayed close for a few laps but slowly drifted back. In the end, Kyle LeDuc took the win sweeping the class for the weekend. Huseman finished solidly in second and Greaves rounded out the podium in third. Kyle LeDuc also swept the Oakley Bomb Run award winning his second of the weekend.

On lap seven, Krieman closed the gap to Schwalbe and got a run through the outside of turn one to gain the inside line of the final turn. Schwalbe and Krieman bumped wheels coming through the turn with Krieman taking third at the line. Schwalbe battled back on lap eight passing Krieman going onto the front straight. Schwable held off a challenge from Tim Lemons over the last lap to finish third. Fortin took the win after building a solid lead to the finish and Morris claimed a second-place finish.

The Pro Light field was led through turn one by Casey Currie. Marty Hart and Steve Federico chased in second and third. Federico surrendered third in the opening lap to Jeff Kincaid in the Cemetery Loop. Currie, Hart and Kincaid raced nose to tail for two laps until Currie spun in the Back 40. Hart snuck by but Kincaid had nowhere to go and hit Currie in the corner. Chad Hord and Chris Brandt took advantage and moved into second and third. Kincaid got back on track and started tracking down Brandt. Two laps later, Kincaid passed Brandt in the Back 40 to reclaim third. On the restart, the top three got off clean and raced lap seven nose to tail.

On lap eight, Hart suffered a flat right rear tire. In the final turn, Hord went by on the outside for the lead and Kincaid passed on the inside for second while Hart dropped back to third. Mark Oberg caught the limping Hart on the next lap moving to third. Kincaid caught Hord on lap 10 passing for the lead as they raced onto the front straight. Kincaid held the lead for half a lap until he had mechanical problems coming over the hill jump forcing him to pull off the track. Hord steamed by taking the lead. Mark Oberg moved to second and Steve Federico reclaimed third. Hord raced through the last lap without a challenge taking the win. Oberg finished second and Federico claimed the final podium spot in third.  Kincaid turned the fastest lap taking the Oakley Bomb Run award.
