CRAWLERS
RACE TO CREATE EXCITEMENT AMONG CHANGES & MUD
COMPETITION NARROWS: FROM 16 TO 11 TOTAL
Event Day begins with a shrinkage in competitors. The estimated 8 in each class has turned into 6 for Super Modified and 5 for Pro Mod. In attendance for Pro Mod: Lovell, Hanks, S. Bulloch, Nielson, Maybe and Brown. For Super Modified: Campbell, Williams, Rodd, Johnson, Feuley, and Deremo.
More, but minor changes follow the lowered numbers: All 6 in Super Modified will run at the same time. The Pro Mod will have all 5 run at once, as planned. Our racers are on the line and ready to hit it on time a little after noon, just as the rain started to come down.
ELIMINATION REDEFINED
The first race is considered the 1st Bracket. After the first race, depending upon your finish placement, you progress to either the next or 2nd Bracket, or the Last Chance Bracket. But if you finish first in the 1st Bracket, as Campbell did, you do not have to compete in the 2nd Bracket and move directly on to the Finals. Each heat has a total of 3 laps to complete.
ROCK BOGGING & BREAKING
"You cannot see anything after the first lap," stated a mud-coated Cottin Rodd after her 1st Bracket, where she finished third. It became almost impossible to figure out which team was what, and the mud started to affect performance.
Bullock wasn't having the easiest time working his way around the muddy terrain and finished last lost the 1st Bracket.
COURSE STRATEGY
Racers came off the starting line hard to snake around a straight away that dropped off into the rock formations. This is when strategy could be found. There were two climbs to take after this hilly passing.
And Bulloch struggled considerably on this returning climb, a spectator favorite. Once up and over the face 3 times, racers made the finish line.
ANTI-CLIMATIC FINISHES
There was a considerable amount of breakages reported, and threw a lot of changes into the Finals. Although Cottin Rodd and Nate Williams qualified for the Finals, both dropped out and Campbell won by default. Rodd broke her steering, but Williams passed on the side-by-side setup. Williams sited his point lead for the Series Championship was too far ahead for Campbell to beat -- Williams eyes were on the prize, not the event.
For the Pro Mod Finals, the Lovell Brothers ended up competing against themselves. Alone on the course they drove. Final qualifiers Maybe and Bulloch had broken buggies.
For the Adrenaline Cup, Campbell finished first behind the Lovells, but was disqualified because he cut a corner. It was Pratt who made the decision to give the trophy to the Lovells.
Also, the Lovells would have won the Series Championship, had they paid and signed up for the entire series. They had chosen at the beginning of the season not to do this, for they were only planning on attending one event.
THE BFG SWEEP: AWARDS CEREMONY & PAYOUT
It was a quite an achievement for BFGoodrich tires, as almost all that placed drove on BFGs.
