For Immediate Release The Parker 400
"TheTradition Continues"
The Parker 400 is the oldest and most prestigious Off Road Race held in the United States. The event began some 27 years ago when the National Off Road Association produced the inaugural "Dam 500." Several years later, the late Mickey Thompson took control of the race until the reins were passed on to SCORE. and now to Whiplash Motorsports. The event grew in stature to its peak in the 1980's when factory involvement and sky rocketing costs helped turn the common man's equivalent of the Indy 500 into a corporate gathering which largely excluded him from the entry list. With current entry numbers far below those of the good old days and the departure of factory backing, SCORE pulled the plug on the legendary Parker 400 event. Don Rolapp of the Parker Area Tourism Committee and the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce contacted Whiplash Motorsports, a Phoenix-based Off Road Promoter. Immediate plans to continue the Parker 400 event were set into otion. Whiplash Motorsports' relationship with the BLM and their eagerness to be involved in the "Super Bowl" of Off-Road Racing will ensure the continuation of this premier event. The new date for the Parker 400 of December 5th, 6th and 7th will position the event far enough from existing and proposed SCORE. events to allow the racer base to return without interfering with other commitments. New, lower entry fees and Whiplash Motorsports' user-friendly attitude will entice the "Good Old Boys" back into the sport and to "the race" that got it all started. FRIDAY:Contingency Row will continue to be a major portion of the happenings. With the pre-Christmas date and more local involvement, vendors will not be limited to just the automotive aftermarket. We will include a variety of crafters, retailers and manufacturers eager to start the Christmas season in Parker. Following Contingency Row, the pill draw and drivers' meeting will take place with a full blown Street Party, live band, food and libations for all. SATURDAY:Saturday morning the race will start and return to downtown Parker each lap allowing spectators easy viewing and all the conveniences the town of Parker has to offer. A 12 hour time limit will finish the race by 7:00 PM. Awards, prizes and a street dance will immediately follow the famed 400. SUNDAY:Sunday, late morning, there will be a Poker Run offered to the non-competitive enthusiasts to run the famous Parker 400 and, of course, this will be followed by awards, prizes and a party. The BLM has taken a giant step forward in community relations by permitting this event. The Parker Area Tourism Committee, the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce and the entire Parker region is firmly behind to this event and Whiplash Motorsports has committed 100% to the success of the Parker 400. Racers, ALL dates published are subject to CHANGE!! There may be extenuating ircumstances that force us to alter the schedule. Whiplash Motorsports Arizona Events
