So, Who is Number One at the World Series of Off-Road Racing?
CRANDON, WI -- Super Buggy racer John Mason of Laona, WI, has grabbed the honor of being the first registered driver on record with the new Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing. He narrowly nudged out SRT Super Truck driver Ross Hoek, Holland, MI. The national driver registration forms were available the early February from WSORR World Headquarters in Crandon, WI.
“Both John and Ross’s forms arrived at our office on Tuesday the 13th, but we have to give the edge to John because he took the initiative to scan the completed forms and send them to us via our ‘talk2us@wsorr.com’ link on our website,” said Tiffany Landru, business affairs manager, WSORR. “John even included the requested driver’s photos in his email attachment that reached our office at 3:29 pm on Monday, February 12 -- a full day before any of the completed registrations reached us by mail. This was truly a 'photo' finish,” she added.
“It’s a real honor to be the first in your class on the track or anytime and especially the first overall to register as a driver for the World Series,” said Jake Flannery, chief race steward, WSORR. "And it’s appropriate that in true World Series fashion it came down to a great race with John and Ross battling to the finish line,” he said.
Mason, Hoek and other racers first to register in their class will be recognized in special ceremonies at the WSORR opening race in Owatonna, MN, with TV coverage, special awards and prizes.
Mason heads for the WSORR "Owatonna Opener", to race in the fastest and most potent off-road buggy racing class in the country. "It is truly special to be a part of the World Series and to be number one right out of the box," said Mason. "I have been racing on WSORR tracks for many years and it truly is the greatest show on dirt," said Mason. "Our goal is win the WSORR Super Buggy title and defend our World Championship title in the class," said Mason, who thanked his sponsors including Goodyear, Rhinelander Honda, Hytech Exhaust, Endyn, Peterson Fluid Systems, Yeager Oil, and J.L.French.
. Hoek placed second in the 2006 SRT Super Truck class last season. "I am very enthusiastic about this coming season," said Hoek. "Our ultra-competitive class has grown to one of the largest in off-road racing circles and our coverage on SPEED TV for 2007 is outstanding and will only further grow the World Series," he said. " I am also looking at racing a limited number of Heavy Metal PRO 2WD races this season to gain more TV exposure," he said. Hoek's Ford F-150 race truck is sponsored by Herculiner and Toyo Tires, among others.
WSORR is the largest off-road racing organization of its type and features 11 classes racing under three divisions ranging from Heavy Metal PRO trucks to high-revving buggies. WSORR combines the three divisions into one super show of off-road racing, unleashing one of the strongest, most exciting and thrilling forms of motorsports in the country today for live audiences as well as SPEED TV. Information about the World Series is available on the worldwide web at WSORR.com.
