What Are The Pros/Cons of Different Size Wheels?
With sizes ranging from 15″-20″ in diameter, and sometimes even larger, it can be hard to figure out which size Jeep Wrangler wheels you might need. Ultimately it comes down to personal preference and how much you want to lighten your wallet when it comes time to replace tires. You’d think that since the larger rim diameter would mean less tire and less cost, but you couldn’t be more wrong. The larger the diameter of your wheel, the more expensive tire will likely be. Also, you want to need to think about what you want to do with your Jeep. If you’re building your Jeep as a mall crawler, you likely don’t have to worry about the wheels getting dinged up so you can run a larger wheel that will have a short sidewall. If you’re going to be using your Jeep Wrangler for what it was built for, you’re going to want a taller sidewall for more flex and tire bite. A great rule of thumb is to select a rim size that is roughly half the size of the tire diameter you plan on running.
Beadlock vs. Non-Beadlock? Which is better?
Unless you’re taking on the most difficult of difficult trails, beadlock wheels aren’t a must-have item on your Jeep Wrangler. The pros of a beadlock wheel are that you can run an extremely low tire pressure with minimal risk of rolling a tire off the bead and providing superior traction. The downfall is that they are extremely expensive and most are not DOT legal, so legally you cannot drive your rig on the highway if you’ve got them installed. If you just want the look of a beadlock wheel, there are plenty of options on the market that will give you the look you want while being legal on the road and keep more money in your wallet.
