“The Passport TrailSport is engineered to perform in these extreme environments, and we’re going to have a lot of fun pushing its rugged capability and ourselves to the limit,” said Adia Raya, one of the two drivers competing in the rally. Raya, a commercial quality product engineer at Honda, will team up with Madison Russell, a quality engineer at Honda’s North American Quality Center, to form the “TrailSport Trekkers” team. Both are Rebelle Rally rookies and together they will represent the Honda of America Racing Team (HART), a unique racing program run by Honda associates across the U.S.
Honda’s Passport TrailSport will compete in the X-Cross class, which limits modifications to crossovers. The vehicle will rely on its factory-spec off-road-tuned suspension, 3.5-liter V6 engine, 10-speed automatic transmission, and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. The only variation from production is the use of Maxxis RAZR All-Terrain tires, drawing on Honda’s off-road racing experience with its Baja Ridgeline Race Truck.
This marks Honda’s sixth consecutive year in the Rebelle Rally, a competition known for pushing both drivers and vehicles to their limits. The event demands precise navigation without the help of GPS or smartphones; instead, teams rely on paper maps, compasses, and headings to find hidden checkpoints across the desert landscape. The 2024 edition starts at Mammoth Mountain in California and finishes at a secret location after 1,500 miles of tough, unpredictable terrain.
Raya and Russell will spend up to 12 hours per day behind the wheel of the TrailSport, demonstrating the durability and capability that Honda has engineered into its latest SUV. Fans can follow the team’s progress through live tracking and scoring during the event from October 11-19.
