2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailhawkToday, Jeep has re-launched the Cherokee today at the New York Auto Show and Moab, Utah. The 2014 Cherokee fits into the void in the company left when the Liberty was removed, offering a mid-sized SUV that offers a fuel economy of up to 31 mph.

While the 2014 Grand Cherokee was fitted with an eight-speed transmission, the new Cherokee receives this segment’s first nine-speed automatic transmission to provide fuel improvements of more than 45 percent compared to the Liberty. The Cherokee offers a best-in-class V-6 towing capability of 4,500 pounds. It also boasts a rear-axle disconnect that can be activated when 4×4 isn’t needed to reduce energy loss and increase fuel efficiency.

Two different engine options are available on the 2014 Cherokee, including a standard 16-valve, 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 I-4 engine, which offers an estimated 31 mpg highway fuel economy rating that provides a driving range of nearly 500 miles. The I-4 engine produces 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. The ’14 Cherokee will be offered with an optional 3.2-liter Pentastate V-6 engine, the first derivative of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 used on a number of Jeep models in recent years. It produces 317 horsepower, 239 lb.-ft. of torque and offers a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.
