BRP has introduced a pair of new Defender variants to its lineup – the 2020 Can-Am Defender PRO HD10 and Defender Limited. Each version benefits from the 2020 Defender family refresh we covered here. Essentially, the Defender family refresh includes what Can-Am calls “refined styling, added protection, enhanced capabilities and enriched comfort.”
A quieter Rotax 1000cc V-Twin is outfitted into both new Defender variants, producing 82 horsepower and 69 lb-ft of torque. As well, a thicker firewall helps dampen sound from reaching the cockpit while also acting as a heat barrier. Other Defender family updates include a quiet exhaust system and a recalibrated CVT with a reduced shift line of 500 RPM.
BRP engineers also improved the reinforced steel frame, which is now five pounds lighter and improves rigidity by 30%. Model year 202 Defenders also come with updated suspension calibration and front and rear arched A-arms for more clearance over trail obstacles. The vehicle’s footprint also changes, with the width increasing to 64 inches.
Can-Am Defender PRO
For 2020, the Can-Am Defender PRO is available in two trim levels – Pro DPS and PRO XT. Both are powered by the 1000cc Rotax V-Twin engine.
The Can-Am Defender PRO models are all about getting work done. Built on the Defender MAX chassis, these are large vehicles that feature an absolutely massive 6′ by 4.5′ cargo box that can be converted to a flatbed design when you’ve got extra large items that need hauling. And because they are built on the MAX chassis, they benefit from a long wheelbase that should offer exceptional stability.
BRP built the Can-Am Defender PRO models to tow up to 2500 pounds with an impressive 1700-pound payload capacity. There is also about 100 gallons of onboard storage space. Finally, the extended cargo bed has twice as much capacity as a regular Defender – a machine that is already plenty capable.

Can-Am Defender Limited
While the Can-Am Defender Limited models are impressive work vehicles in their own right, these models are all about four-season comfort. Each comes equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), giving you climate control to work in comfort in the dead of winter to the hottest summer day. The HVAC system in the Defender Limited features the industry’s first automatic mode and a variable compressor, regulating the air-tight cabin’s temperature. According to BRP, automatic mode is “capable, without manual adjustment, of modulating power output of the airflow once the desired interior temperature is met.”
With the full cab that comes on Defender Limited models, you get doors with electric opening windows, full-glass, tilt-up windshield with wiper and washer kit, and a rear bumper.
You can pick up the Defender Limited package in two different versions – the three-seat Defender Limited and the six-seat Defender MAX Limited. Both can tow up to 2500 pounds and are only available with the bigger HD10 engine.
Each Limited model also features Can-Am’s True 4-mode traction system with Turf Mode and front auto-locking Visco-Lok QE. This 4-mode traction system lets you find the right mode for a variety of terrain and tasks, including the ability to protect delicate grass lawns.
A more powerful 850-watt magneto (compared to 650 watts on the Defender PRO) is ready to juice up a wide array of power-draining accessories, including high-powered lighting.
