Yamaha Motor Corp., USA has taken the covers off of its 2020 Yamaha ATV and UTV lineup, which is highlighted by new XT-R edition Grizzly, Wolverine and YXZ1000R models.
What is XT-R?
If you are curious what the XT-R means, it is essentially a new ultra premium trim. But rather than just fancy looking accessories, Yamaha looks to have designed XT-R editions to tackle the roughest and nastiest terrain, as each comes equipped with new radial tires, a Warn winch, and more.
Let’s take a look at everything new Yamaha has in store for us for the 2020 model year.
2020 Yamaha Wolverine X2 and X4 XT-R
For the most part, the Wolverine X2 and X4 models look pretty much the same as they did in the 2019 model year. However, there is one change worth exploring. All Wolverine models will feature new upper and lower A-arms, which increase suspension travel while minimizing camber changes. These changes also lead to the Wolverine X2 and X4 models being able to accommodate “square” or same-size accessory wheel and tire setups without having to worry about wheel offsets.
But the real news here is the addition of the Wolverine X2 XT-R and Wolverine X4 XT-R models. Opting for the Wolverine XT-R trim means you will get 27-inch GB Dirt Commander radial tires with 8-ply construction, increased ground clearance, traction and durability. As well, they also come with a Warn VRX 4500 winch, high-quality graphics and painted bodywork, and KYB piggyback shocks with fully adjustable spring preload rebound and high-and low-speed compression damping. Pricing for Wolverine XT-R models starts at $15,999.
2020 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS XT-R
The Yamaha YXZ1000R family returns for 2020 and the star of the show is the new Yamaha YXZ1000R SS XT-R. This package includes everything you’d normally get in the special edition models (painted bodywork, color-matched interior, beadlock wheels, fully-adjustable FOX 2.5 Podium RC2 shocks), along with Yamaha-exclusive Maxxis Carnage 8-ply radial tires, centerline pod lights, custom front grab bar, heavy duty Warn VRX 4500 winch with integrated in-cab switch, composite sun top, and contrast-stitched seats. Pricing for the Yamaha YXZ1000R SS XT-R is $21,699.
2020 Yamaha Grizzly XT-R
The 2020 Yamaha Grizzly was announced earlier this year, which you can read about here. The big change is that it now comes pre-wired for the Yamaha Adventure Pro GPS powered by Magellan. But should you opt for the Yamaha Grizzly XT-R model, you get a host of upgrades. Of note are the larger 27-inch Maxxis ‘Zilla tires, XT-R painted bodywork, and factory-installed Warn Pro Vantage 2500 winch. Pricing for the Yamaha Grizzly XT-R, which comes in Titanium Bronze/Tactical Black, is $10,999.
2020 Yamaha Kodiak 450 SE
Yamaha’s popular Kodiak 450 ATV gets a new SE trim level for 2020. Taking the Kodiak to the next level, the SE model features electronic power steering, adjustable dual A-arm suspension, and Yamaha’s three-position On-Command 4WD with 2WD, 4WD limited slip, and 4WD with full locking differentials. It also comes standard with a Warn Pro Vantage 2500 winch and premium alloy wheels. The 2020 Yamaha Kodiak 450 SE is dressed in Tactical Green and retails for $7,999. If you want to skip the On-Command 4WD and the Warn winch, a Kodiak 450 SE in Matte Silver is available for $7,599.
2020 Yamaha Viking and Viking VI
The Yamaha Viking and Viking VI Utility UTV family returns unchanged for 2020. The only difference in the lineup are Viking and Viking VI Ranch Edition models, which now feature new Copperhead Orange Metallic painted bodywork, along with under-seat storage, cast aluminum wheels, comfort-grip steering wheel, overfenders, center rearview mirror, rear grab bar, and Ranch Edition badging.
The Viking will be available in Ridge Red with a suntop ($11,999 MSRP), with EPS-equipped models
including a suntop and aluminum wheels in Tactical Green ($13,499 MSRP), Realtree Edge ($13,899 MSRP), or the Copperhead Orange Metallic Ranch Edition with a suntop ($14,199 MSRP). Viking VI models are also available in Tactical Green ($14,299 MSRP), Realtree Edge with aluminum wheels ($14,899 MSRP), and the Copperhead Orange Metallic Ranch Edition with a color-matched soft suntop, aluminum wheels, and heavy duty front brush guard ($15,599 MSRP).
