Kia has brought a quartet of their newest SUV, the Telluride, to the SEMA show in Vegas.
Pairing well with the jumbo-sized off-road course where folks can ride-along with Kia drivers are four Tellurides modified to show off the company’s desire to capture a slice of the off-road segment.
All four rigs have a modified suspension, with a track widened by three-inches front/rear and remote-reservoir McPherson front struts that allow for a couple extra inches of travel. Out back, inverted WRC-spec shocks stretch an extra 1.5-inches more than stock. The rear multi-link and front lower control arms are newly-fabbed units as well.
The ‘Horizon Roamer’ doesn’t refer to the Turn 10 video game but does sport 32-inch Black Rhino wheels on knobby mud-terrains. A roof-mounted cargo rack with an LED light bar, brush guard, and snorkel highlight the ‘wheeling desires of this square-jawed SUV.
A ‘Cadet Leader’ might not be adept at tying knots or earning badges but its flat green and black paint gives off a strong military vibe, not to mention the rear-quarter panel Rotopak carrier. Like the HR, it also has a brush guard and those same mud-terrains.

Called the ‘Desert Drifter’ this rig won’t try to crash on your couch but will look good in the barren landscape just outside Vegas with its desert-style tan and black paint job. Brush guards and skid plates make appearances here as well, along with what’s described as a “modified straight pipe” exhaust. Kia hasn’t told us exactly which variation of its V6 engine is slated for the Telluride but an uncorked Stinger motor would probably sound the business.
Finally, the ‘Baja Glider’ may sound like an engineless plane soaring over Mexico but is actually a Telluride equipped with gear like a tube bumpers and several million candlepower worth of LEDs. The 32-inch wheels and their attendant M/Ts appear again, along with skid plates.
Not targeted at the off-road crowd but worth mentioning are a cool Forte Drift Car and a couple of DUB Edition sedans aimed at anyone wearing a flat-brimmed cap. The SEMA show kicks off today in Vegas and runs all week.
