Not content to run the field at events like last month’s Baja 500, Rob MacCachren has wheeled his truck to a muddy win at the rain-sodden Lucas Oil Speedway.

With the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series racing at its namesake racetrack, a packed house watched off-road ace MacCachren make a worst-to-first run through the field to take the Pro 2 victory, his second of the season.

“We love coming here. These fans are second to none,” MacCachren said in an interview with the speedway’s website. “I just want to thank my guys for working so hard.”

The second annual GEICO Off-Road Challenge saw plenty of wheel-to-wheel and metal-on-metal action, as the slick conditions made for a contact-filled race. MacCachren and his teammate, R.J. Anderson, ran up front for much of the event but Anderson tangled with the truck driven by Bradley Morris towards the end of the race, relegating him to seventh place. The win puts MacCachren and his Rockstar truck in the series point lead.

“With all the weather today, I want to thank all the fans for sticking it out,” MacCachren said in a news release. “I’m glad we put on a good show and I want to thank Lucas Oil for getting this track to come around.”

Despite sharing a name, this was the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series’ inaugural event at the track in Wheatland, Missouri – mainly because it’s a brand new track. Leading off-road short course drivers tackled the brand-new purpose built track, including action from classes diverse as Pro 4, Pro 2, Pro Lite, Pro Buggy, Production 1000 UTV, and Mod Karts.

The track is 1.2 miles long with nine turns, seven lefts and a pair of rights. Headline features of the new facility include a high-banked turn three with a 150 foot inside radius and a 20 foot tall table top jump that stretches a full 120 feet. The whole course is composed of three types of dirt: heavy clay, top/black dirt, and silt dirt. Good times.

The series now rolls into Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nevada. That event takes place on July 21, with the added drama of being a night race. The season wraps up with a daytime race in October at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Arizona.
