The aptly-named FJ Company creates fantastic (and fantastically expensive) builds of the classic Toyota off-roader. At this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the company showed off its most expensive creation yet: the FJ Signature.
The FJ Company was founded by Nelson and Juan Calle, two brothers who grew up riding in the back of their grandfather’s FJ40. Safe to say, then, they know a thing or two about classic FJs. In 2010 they created the FJ Company, intent on making some of the world’s best-restored Toyota FJ Land Cruisers.

They succeeded. Not unlike ICON, another company making gorgeous homages to classic off-road machines, the FJ Company’s Signature model has design details milled from CNC machined aluminum and several square acres of obsessive detail. Billing the Signature as a modern take on the classic adventure, the process of building one starts with the body and frame of a 1976-1983 FJ43. From there, the authentic steel body is restored and rebuilt by hand, complete with a custom soft top with fully removable windows and a rollback sunroof.

Under its square nose, the FJ Company installs a factory-fresh Toyota 1GRE-FE engine, equipped with Haltech EFI technology, hooked to a Toyota six-speed manual transmission. Custom, full-floating front and rear axles keep things going on the trail, and a suspension sourced from Old Man Emu is paired with Fox shocks. Modern disc brakes are found at each corner.
Inside, customers of the Signature will find leather-upholstered Recaro front seats (heated front and rear), plus a custom console featuring an iPad Mini. A/C is integrated into the dash thanks to Vintage Air, and tunes are on tap by way of a booming Focal sound system.
The price for all this is somewhere north of $200,000, depending on options. That does include shipping in the continental U.S. and a one year service contract. The FJ Company build-and-price tool is full of excellent goodies and has greatly contributed to this author’s reduced productivity this afternoon (pro tip: select the Buffalo Brown paint). The entry-level Classic model checks in at a mere $85,000.
Last year was FJ Company’s first year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This year, they’ve knocked it clear out of the park with a fantastic show presence. Given their momentum and quality of product, it won’t be the last time we see them in the desert.
The company says first orders for the Signature model are expected to be delivered at the end of 2018.
