Editor’s Note: BlueRibbon Coalition sent over this note regarding an open house meeting regarding Minnesota’s Kabetogama State Forest area. See more information below.
Anyone interested in trail use and motorized recreation in Kabetogama State Forest in St. Louis County is encouraged to attend an open house Wednesday, August 3, 2016, 5;00 to 8:00 p.m., at the American Legion, 4543 U.S. Highway 53 in Orr, the Department of Natural Resources said.
The open house will provide an opportunity to submit comments and suggestions about trail use at Kabetogama State Forest. DNR staff will be available to answer questions and provide maps of existing trails.
Between 2003-08, the DNR inventoried all routes and designated trails within state forests. This current project will reevaluate the designations made during the initial review. Changes could include redefining how trails can be used, determining options for motorized trail routes and trail connections, closing unsustainable trails, designating “areas with limitations” during hunting and trapping activities, and developing new hunter walking trails.
Written comments may be submitted to be foresttrailplanning.dnr@state.mn.us or by mail to Joe Unger, DNR Parks and Trails, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MNĀ 55155-4039. The DNR will accept written comments through August 17, 2016. Changes to state forest trail designations must be made by commissioner’s order and published in the State Register.
Sharetrails.Org/BRC believes this is a great opportunity for the OHV community to be part of the planning process and have a say in the state’s effort to identify road-based riding opportunities that are important to you and/or your club.
