General-Tire-NORRA-Mexican-1000-5-6-16Fort Mill, S.C. – The 2016 NORRA Mexican 1000 race has ended at the tip of the Baja peninsula in Cabo and the Caballo del Diablo team, headed by Boyd Jaynes, captured a first-place finish in the Pioneer 4×4 class and earned the coveted Steve McQueen memorial trophy!

Driver, Boyd Jaynes, and copilot, Brian Godfrey, took on the “Evil Mariachi” theme this year and dressed the part, too, complete with mariachi hats.

While the classic Bronco on GRABBER MTs successfully navigated the entire race, it was not without its stresses.

“This has been the longest day I’ve ever been in the Bronco—more than 12 hours just to make it to Bay of LA,” said Jaynes.

The next day they would lead in class all the way to Loreto.  By the time they hit La Paz, they fell back to second, but would eventually regain the lead in Cabo. The first-place finish in Cabo made them the Pioneer 4×4 champs and gained them the Steve McQueen memorial trophy, presented to them by Rod Hall.

Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire, always likes a win.

“Congratulations to the Caballo del Diablo team on their win,” stated Roffler.  “We appreciate the hard work they put into this event and thank them for giving General Tire another win in Baja.”
