Maybe Ford has small plans, but it’s possible we just never heard about them. Proving that when Ford unveils a plan it does so in a big way, the blue oval recently announced a new truck available to its government and fleet customers. The new F-150 Special Service Vehicle looks to provide a truck solution for law enforcement in need of a capable truck. And in true Ford fashion, it will be offered in many options and not just one package.
The new F-150 Special Service Vehicle is available in the XL trim package in SuperCrew and SuperCab models and in either 4×4 or 4×2. Engine options will include Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 or 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Off-roaders will appreciate the lack of carpeted flooring, as vinyl flooring will be used for easy cleanup. The back seat is also replaced with a vinyl seat as well for easy cleanup, dirty jobs, or if a police dog is along for the ride.
Ford says it also has upgrade the Special Service truck with a high-output 240-amp alternator to replace the stock unit for extended idle times. The front seat is also customized, with the 40/20/40 front seat that now features a blank section (making it 40/blank/40) to create the exact setup needed, be it a laptop or other device.
Ford is no stranger to speciality vehicles designed for police enforcement, as the Special Service Vehicle joins Ford’s other offerings in the segment that includes: Expedition Special Service Vehicle, Special Service Police Sedan, Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle, Police Interceptor Sedan, Police Interceptor Utility.
“We offer a whole family of police vehicles,” said Arie Groeneveld, Ford chief program engineer for police vehicles. “Our lineup aims to fulfill the unique needs of law enforcement officers, and our F-150 Special Service Vehicle is an extension of that offering. This vehicle definitely lives up to its Built Ford Tough reputation.”
