The 2014 race season is in full swing, and as Kevin Lyons settles into the driver seat of the #29 Lyons Motorsports Unlimited Truck, he is surrounded by strong crew members and partners for the year. The two-day race took place in Primm, NV, where Kevin and new co-rider, Louis Chamberland would run five laps both Saturday and Sunday. After qualifying on Friday, Lyons would start middle of the pack out of 10 Unlimited Trucks for the start of the race on Saturday.

Saturday’s race went smooth for Lyons and the team. Each lap Lyons would set a faster lap time and get a better feel for the truck and its capabilities. With time being made up and the leader out of the race, this put Lyons in a great spot to finish the day in the top 3.
“With less than three hours in seat time, it feels good to finally get to understand how far I can push this truck,” stated Lyons. “These trucks are built to withstand the harsh desert terrain and be thrown around, now it is just a matter of trusting my judgment.”

On Sunday’s race, Lyons would face a flat tire that would set him back a few minor minutes. Chamberland was quick to change the tire and get the truck back on course. Numerous yellow flags plagued the course and would cause a gap in the top trucks. Conlon ran away with Sundays race win, but with a DNF on Saturday for Conlon, this still gave Lyons a shot at coming away with a podium spot finish for the overall results.

Due to timing machines being stolen from SNORE, official results of the race were delayed till the middle of the week. Penalties were handed out and after SNORE officials finished the results by hand, Lyons would claim the 3rd overall position for the weekend in the Unlimited Truck class.

“Our team is strong and we just need to keep the momentum going moving forward,” Lyons said. “Snore put on a great race and we can’t wait to come back and do it again next year, and try for the win.”
