SAN DIEGO — After 1,638.1 dusty and grueling desert racing miles, 30 of the world’s best desert racers have survived the challenge of the three-race 2013 SCORE Desert Series to earn coveted 2013 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards. The 30 drivers, competing in 11 different classes, earned their prestigious honors by finishing every required mile in the World’s foremost Desert Racing Series. The 2013 SCORE Desert Series ended recently with the 46th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
All 30 drivers of record will receive their special awards Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Town & Country Resort Hotel in San Diego during the annual SCORE Awards Night celebration of 40 years of SCORE desert racing honoring the 2013 SCORE Desert Series point champions and the winners of the 2013 SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year awards.
Leading the way with 2013 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards are seven racers in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division, three in Class 1 for unlimited open-wheel desert-race cars, five in Class 10 for 1650cc open-wheelers and five in Class 1/2-1600 for single or two-seat open wheelers powered by 1600cc VW engines. The total of 30 winners is the most in the 28-year history of the iconic award, eclipsing the previous high total of 22 winners in the 2007 SCORE Desert Series.
The seven drivers in SCORE Trophy Truck, the featured racing division for high-tech, 850-horsepower unlimited production trucks who completed all 1,638.1 required race miles of the 2013 season are: B.J. Baldwin, Las Vegas (No. 1 Chevy Silverado), Troy Herbst, Las Vegas (No. 91 Ford F-150), Juan C. Lopez, Tecate, Mexico (No. 18 Ford Raptor), Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas (No. 11 Ford F-150), Bryce Menzies, Las Vegas (No. 70 Ford F-150), Cameron Steele, San Clemente, Calif. Toyota is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 28th consecutive year. The SCORE Toyota Milestone awards are going to those pro car and truck drivers who finished every required mile in the 2013 SCORE Desert Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series.
“Toyota is proud to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers,” said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “For nearly three decades, Toyota has had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet.”
