With a good swath of the country about to be locked in a deep freeze until April, Ram has announced a pickup equipped with winter-rated tires and a one-inch lift as standard gear.
Based on the Big Horn trim, the Ram 1500 North is a special edition truck endowed with content and features geared toward customers in the Snow Belt. It’s a 4×4, naturally, packing the BorgWarner 48-11 transfer case which offers four-wheel drive in High, Low, and Auto modes. The crawl ratio for that t-case is 2.64:1, by the way, so hauling yourself out of a snowbank should be a relative breeze.
Clawing through the white stuff is aided by a set of Falken LT tires rated for snow duty and bearing the three-peak mountain snowflake, a sign that the rubber is fit to take on winter’s worst. A one-inch factory lift and electric-locking rear axle won’t go astray either, nor will the standard engine block heater and remote start.
Despite its chrome-laden Big Horn origins, the North features color-keyed trim with steel painted bumpers. The door handles, mirror caps, and grille have also taken a trip through the paint booth. This style creates a truck similar in look to Ram 1500s with the $1195 Sport Appearance Package.
Inside, the Ram 1500 North gets a set of snazzy all-weather floor mats to contain the slush and misery you’ll be tracking into the cab, along with heated seats and steering wheel. Ram’s dandy 12-inch Uconnect is AWOL for now.
This package is available only on Crew Cab pickups but both short bed and long bed options are available. Four-wheel drive is a must, of course, leaving buyers to then select between either the eTorque 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Your author recommends the latter.
Ram fans living in parts of the country where the ground is dusted in white like a record producer’s office should be able to find the Ram 1500 North at dealers right now, priced at $45,890 plus $1695 destination.
