Ford has released the official performance specifications of the 2019 Ranger.
The 2019 Ranger’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder will make 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The turbo four will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive when the truck enters production later this year.
Ford says the EcoBoost equipped Ranger will boast a 7,500 lb towing capacity – which represents the best tow capacity in class for a gasoline truck. You must equip the truck with the optional towing package to receive the maximum tow rating, however.
The new Ranger will also have a payload rating of over 1,800 lbs, according to Ford.

“Think of Ranger as the biggest and most capable backpack for your gear,” Rick Bolt, Ford Ranger chief engineer, said in a statement. “With 1,860 pounds of maximum payload, Ranger can haul nearly a ton of gear to enable your next adventure.”
The 3.6-liter V6 in the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon makes 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, Ford’s four-cylinder is less powerful, but offers up more torque. The four-cylinder is also more robust than the available 4.0-liter V6 in the Nissan Frontier, which makes 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque.
The only mid-size trucks that can top the Ranger when it comes to towing are the diesel Colorado and Canyon, which boast a tow capacity of 7,600 lbs. The 2.8-liter diesel engine in those trucks makes 181 hp and a meaty 369 lb-ft of torque.
The 2019 Ford Ranger will enter production at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, later this year, before going on sale nationwide in early 2019.
