Fans of the Can-Am brand will enjoy new choices in 2019, thanks to an expanded lineup in the side-by-side market.
New for the upcoming year is the Maverick Sport MAX DPS 1000R, a machine that’ll take all hands on a high speed rip through the country. It’s a good looking package, delivering space for up to four riders in a machine that’s specially tuned for trails. A performance-grade suspension system with FOX 2.0 PODIUM QS3 shocks and power steering are the big news, along with a full 60-inch (152.4 cm) width that should improve the overall riding experience from both a stability and interior space perspectives.
A rear-mounted 976cc Rotax V-Twin supplies an even 100 horsepower while wearing a unique exhaust line and muffler that provide enhanced airflow, according to the company. An additional CVT intake and driven pulley from the Maverick X3 also help provide the newfound 25 extra horses. Its airbox is from the X3 as well. Take along all your gear with its 1500lb towing capacity. It’ll start at a not wholly unreasonable $18,999.
Can-Am also unveiled a trio specialty vehicles for enthusiasts. The first is the new Maverick Sport X rc, in which rc stands for rock crawling. Priced at $21,299, this rig is outfitted with a wider stance, 14.75-inches of suspension travel, and added interior/exterior protection for operation in tough environments. A Rock mode has been added to the machine’s Smart-Lok system. Rounding out the package are high-grade FOX shocks, arched A-arms, and 30-inch Maxxis Liberty tires. It deploys the familiar 1000R engine.
The Maverick Sport X mr and the Defender Max X mr are two machines ready to play in the mud. Able to seat two and up to six riders respectively, these two brutes include a Mud mode in their Smart-Lok brains, which will play nicely with the fifteen inches of ground clearance. The mr equals the rc in its suspension travel when it deploys the FOX 2.5 Podium QS3 shocks to their fullest extent. A stable 64-in (162.6 cm) width should keep things shiny side up. These Mavericks are powered by the 976cc engine, rated here at 100 horses.

ATV fans aren’t bereft of new product for 2019, as the Can-Am Outlander Max 6×6 450 paws its way into showrooms. Retailing for under ten grand in the States, this beast is powered by the single-cylinder liquid-cooled Rotax. Its CVT has an extra-low L gear, which should make a good difference when hauling loads or pushing through the thick stuff. Power steering and relocated intakes are on tap, while the Visco-Lok system allows for 4×6 and 6×6 wheeling.
Nine-inches of suspension travel is available up front and just a hair under that number in the rear, pairing well with the 10.5 inches of ground clearance. There is also a quick-release sway bar. Its 1650lb towing capacity outstrips some small crossovers. Get it in any color you want so long as it’s green.
You may recall, back in September 2015, BRP President and CEO José Boisjoli pledged to unveil a new side-by side vehicle every sixth months through the year 2020. The Maverick Sport MAX DPS 1000R is the seventh vehicle introduced since that time.
“We are still focused on leveraging innovation and accessibility to bring BRP’s fun and excitement to more riders than ever before,” said BRP President & CEO José Boisjoli last night at the Product Reveal in Denver.
