Today’s poll is easy: would you rather wheel an ATV or rock a UTV?
There are fans in both camps, of course, arguing vehemently for their favored side. ATV fans will point out their ability to get into (and out of!) places in which a side-by-sides could never venture, while the opposing camp will champion the opportunity to carry all manner of equipment in a powerful rig.
You’ll likely vote for the ATV if your off-roading takes you places where being nimble is a plus. These rigs and their short wheelbase are great for making tight turns, putting driver and passenger amongst thick brush into which UTVs could never tread. Digging out of a mudhole or winching out of a gorge is generally easier in this lighter machine, too. ATVs (or the generic termĀ four-wheelers in my rural town, likeĀ Ski-Doo is a catch-all term for every snowmobile) are also generally a few bucks cheaper than a similarly powered side-by-side, putting money back in your pocket for performance mods or hunting equipment or whatever you wish.
Those furiously clicking on the picture of that UTV will argue that they have the ability to wheel across the open landscape with abandon, citing their wider track as a very good reason for why side-by-sides rarely go bottom up. Those not interested in outright speed say the SxS is better equipped for farm work, given there are multiple configurations available with dump beds and high payload ratings. Plus, most of them – especially the sport models – simply look freakin’ cool. The amount of aftermarket kit on offer for UTVs is practically endless, ranging from brighter-than-the-sun LED bars to booming sound systems.
Given the option – and deep pockets – your author would simply choose both. The poll won’t let us do that, though, so you’ll have to pick one. Select wisely! And tell us why in the comments.
