UTV racers competing in the Best In the Desert (BITD) series will be adding space for new bulbs and shining up their light bars, as BITD has announced it is adding a night race for UTVs on Thursday, Oct. 11th as part of the Method Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic.
This marks the first 100-percent night race for UTVs in the BITD series and, fittingly, the event is being presented by Baja Designs, one of the most recognized names in off-road race lighting. It’s a great test for their products, then.
UTV registration, tech, and the driver’s meeting will take place on race day ahead of the event’s start. There will be two separate groups running eight laps each over a 16-mile course. The first group will consist of UTV Pro Production and Sportsman Classes, while the second crew will be the powerful UTV Turbo and Unlimited Classes.

“We are very excited to be adding the UTV night race to what is already a packed weekend of racing activities at Laughlin,” commented Best in the Desert Operations Mgr. Donald Jackson. “And to have Baja Designs as the presenting sponsor is just icing on the cake.”
Hearing the Turbo and Unlimited classes tear across the sand, high-pitched engines piercing the black desert night like a jagged knife ripping through cloth will be a treat. Group 1 will start at sundown, approximately 6:00 PM at that time of year. Group 2 sets off at 10:30 PM. A time limit is set at 3 hours and 45 minutes.
The VT Construction Silver State 300 just wrapped up last week, seeing classes from quads and motorcycles to desert trucks competing in the event. Trick Truck drivers Justin Matney and Kellon Walch wheeled their machine to a Group B win with a time of 05:14:33.
The Method Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic by Polaris and the UTV Night Race presented by Baja Designs will be the seventh round of Best in the Desert’s 2018 series. Set in the dark, there’s a good chance it’ll be an instant classic. With racing for cars, trucks, and now UTVs as well, it will be an action-packed weekend at the river.
