The Ram Rebel TRX Concept was rolled out back in 2016 to show us what a high-power off-road Ram could look like and now we have learned what engines might power the TRX when it arrives for real. 

Citing an unnamed source, 5thgenrams.com claims that the new Rebel TRX will arrive by the 2021 model year with two engine options, a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 as the base engine and the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 as the performance option. About 520 horsepower is expected from the big V8, while the Hellcat should be tuned to its standard 707 hp.

The report claims that the Ram Rebel TR badge will be used to denote base engine, while the Rebel TRX will be used on the Hellcat. Besides the engines, suspension tuning and packaging is expected to be different between the two trucks, but the specifics remain a mystery.

The concept also used plenty of other parts to make it off-road ready, including custom CV half-shafts, 37-inch tires, a Dynatrac Pro 60 rear axle, and suspension that had 40 percent more travel. Considering the Ram TRX will be chasing the Ford Raptor, the long-travel suspension and bigger tires are a must for any production truck and will almost certainly be part of the package.

The only other hint we have from Ram that a Hellcat-powered truck is possible is a single press photo, showing the interior of the new 2019 Rebel. The time on the infotainment screen reads “7:07,” and coming from FCA, a brand known for hiding Easter Eggs in its press materials, this could point towards a Hellcat-powered 1500. Only time will tell.
