Passing emissions tests after an engine swap can be tough, but nowhere is it harder than in California, the state where “Tina” the 4Runner lives.
You see all kinds of interesting vehicles at King of the Hammers and this 1997 Toyota 4Runner featuring a 4.7L V8 engine out of a 2001 Tundra was particularly interesting.

Not because of the swap itself, as this combination of Tundra V8 and 4Runner isn’t unheard of. The reason it is special is that according to Tina’s owner, this is the only one of its kind that has passed California’s strict vehicle emissions standards. That means that Tina is emissions compliant across the country.
Believe it or not, Tina is his daily driver to boot!
