Toyota is showing off a new vehicle meant for adventures, though not exactly the kind that hardcore off-roaders may be after.

This is the latest in a line of adventure-loving concept vehicles from Toyota, meant for city cruising all week and then activities on the weekend, be it rock climbing, mountain biking or paddling.

Some of its adventure-ready features include removable fog lights that can be removed and attached to a mountain bike, twin hooks for when you need to get unstuck, skid plates to protect the vitals, a wide stance and long wheelbase, though Toyota didn’t release actual numbers. Large fender flares help to complete the look, sitting above 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The ground clearance is described as “generous,” though again, Toyota doesn’t offer a number. A safari-style cargo rack accommodates hauling all sorts of stuff on the roof.

Without the numbers, it’s hard to judge, but this doesn’t look like the hardcore off-road machine many of us were hoping Toyota would build. However, there are some high-tech features in the concept that actually seem genuinely intriguing, like the embedded infrared cameras in the side mirrors which can record your drive and can also live stream on social media thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity. And like the fog lights, the cameras can be removed and mounted off-vehicle. LED marker lights on the front corners can provide a flash for the cameras as well, so they will work at night. Also out back is a neat looking retractable bike rack that appears to fold into the bumper.

Power comes from an unnamed gasoline engine, while a new torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system has been used. This allows power to be spread to the necessary wheel to provide maximum traction. A four-wheel lock function allows the power to be sent to all four wheels all the time, while variable terrain-response settings will help to tackle different kinds of trails. Toyota says a hybrid powertrain could also be used for this machine.

So for all those waiting for a followup to the FJ Cruiser, this doesn’t seem like it. But at least Toyota is staying somewhat committed to heading off-road, and hopefully, a new Wrangler competitor comes from the brand soon.
