Famed racecar driver Robby Gordon will lead the pack of trophy trucks when they leave from Ensenada, Mexico on Nov.15 for the 50th running of the Baja 1000 presented by BFGoodrich tires. 

Qualifying for the race took place last night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway after the first day of the SEMA show ended. Each driver got three practice laps and three qualifying laps.

Robby Gordon managed to run the course in 2:52.262, while desert race legend Rob Maccachren came in second with a time of 2:52.728, narrowly missing the pole position (though we heard from some friends of Rob that he purposefully doesn’t like to qualify first).

In third spot is Andy McMillin with a time of 2:54.378, followed by Larry Connor with a 2:54.604 and Bryce Menzies, rounding out the top five, with a time of 2:55.893. The full list of qualifying times is posted below.

There was no shortage of excitement either, as the number 26 truck of Dave Taylor rolled on the final turn of the course but managed to come back over and land on its wheels. Taylor finished his lap and qualified 25, which better than can be said for Troy Herbst, who put his number 91 truck up on its side and did not finish.
