The 2018 Ford Expedition and F-150 models are getting more power and improved fuel efficiency.

Several engines are benefiting from port injection, in addition to the already existing direct injection, while the new 10-speed automatic transmission is being added to a few powertrains. Unfortunately, fuel economy figures haven’t been announced, but the powertrain changes are expected to improve mpg.

The 2018 Ford F-150 will replace the 3.5-liter V6 engine with a new 3.3-liter V6 making 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. That’s an improvement of 8 hp and 12 lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing 3.5-liter mill. The 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 also benefits from port injection, increasing torque to 400 lb-ft, an increase of 25 lb-ft. Horsepower will remain the same at 325, but the engine does benefit from the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 5.0-liter V8 engine adds direct injection, resulting in an increase of 10 hp to 395 and torque to 400 lb-ft, up from 387. The engine also benefits from spray-in bore liners found in the Mustang Shelby GT350 and will be offered with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

There is also a new 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 joining the lineup next spring, paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford also announced all engines get standard start-stop technology, but no power figures for the diesel have been released.

The 2018 Ford Expedition also sees numerous changes to its lineup. The standard 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine now generates 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, an increase from 365 hp and 420 lb-ft. The Expedition Platinum model gets higher output out of the same engine, offering 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The SUV will also replace the six-speed automatic transmission for the new 10-speed unit, while start-stop becomes standard. As a result of the changes, maximum towing capacity increases from 9,200 to 9,300 pounds.

The 2018 Ford Expedition XLT model also gets a new FX4 Off-Road Package.

Look for both the 2018 Ford Expedition and F-150 models to arrive dealerships this fall.
