Greenville, S.C. – BFGoodrich Tires, the official tire of SCORE International, developed its off-road identity four decades ago in the Baja peninsula in Mexico. To recognize the importance this region played in the legacy of its motorsports success, BFGoodrich announced a charitable donation of $10,000 USD to the Ensenada Family Development System (DIF) in an effort to make a difference in the lives of families in Baja, Mexico. Additionally, BFGoodrich committed to an upgrade to the historic monument that stands near the start/finish line of the annual SCORE Baja 500 and Baja 1000 race. This monument, donated by the people and administration of Ensenada several years ago, recognized the impact BFGoodrich and SCORE International racing has made on the community of Ensenada. Mayor Marco Novelo thanked the company for its donation which will be used for social assistance programs run by DIF Municipal, in particular to support a community center for those living in the Valley of San Quentin. “On behalf of the municipality of Ensenada, we thank and acknowledge your generosity; I am very honored that the DIF led by my wife Mirna, have your support,” said Mayor Novelo in a ceremony held earlier this year in Ensenada. These names have a place in history on this beautiful monument with a plan to continually add winners’ names annually. “We are proud as well as humbled by our forty years of success in Baja desert racing,” said Chris Baker, motorsports director, BFGoodrich Tires. “We were introduced to Baja as a laboratory to test new products by the SCORE leadership and it initiated a deep connection between our brand and the people of the Baja peninsula. That impact on the brand continues today. We are grateful to the administration and the wonderful people of Baja who have welcomed us and helped us be successful. Over the years we have been fortunate to be in a position to touch the lives of many in Baja and with this contribution we feel that this is the best way for us to continue making a difference.” Over 40 years, BFGoodrich has 87 overall wins in SCORE Baja racing, more than all other tire manufacturers combined. Those early racing successes also launched a revolutionary new tire category that contributed to the growth of the entire light-truck and four-wheel-drive industry.
