Shannon Campbell earned his third King of the Hammers victory over his son by a mere 28 seconds.

After earning the win ahead of son Wayland at Wednesday’s Can-Am UTV King of the Hammers, Shannon Campbell again bested his son by just edging him out on corrected time to be the first racer to earn three King of the Hammers victories.

Wayland was the first across the finish line in Hammertown in Johnson Valley, and father Shannon was hot on his heels and crossed a short time after. In fact, Shannon was in such a hurry he finished the race without a front left tire.

Once across the line, the proud father couldn’t hold back his excitement and emotion about his battle with his son.

“That was the best damn time I’ve ever had,” Shannon said of son Wayland. “He just proved himself. He’s one bad dude.”

With Wayland unofficially finishing in second place behind father Shannon, third place went to Jason Scherer, who earned the pole position for the race and was hunting for his second King of the Hammers win. Scherer was in the mix and appeared to posses the lead a few times, but in the end he couldn’t hold off the Campbell duo. Scherer finished just 3 minutes and 4 seconds behind Shannon. Erik Miller, a two-time King, was the fourth finisher in this year’s KOH with a time of 7 hours, 14 minutes and 13 seconds. JP Gomez earned fifth place with a time fo 7 hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds.
