You couldn’t walk more than 5 feet at this year’s SEMA Show without seeing or bumping into a truck. Trucks greeted SEMA Show attendees at hall entrances, and the edges of each side of the convention center, and they were pretty much everywhere you looked.
We already highlight some of the bro-dozers at this year’s show in the 7 Trucks That Will Never See Dirt, but this was another batch of rigs that caught our eye for one reason or another. Check out these cool trucks we captured at this year’s show.
This 2017 Raptor pre-runner in the Ford booth is everything we want to see in an off-road truck. By the way, you can now place an order for one.
This Cummins-powered Ram 2500 from AEV is just sweet. In the past, the Wrangler builds from AEV are always amazing, but we’re starting to think its truck builds are just as on point.
Some SEMA Show builds are all for show, but others, like this Hellwig Nissan Titan XD, is built for use. Hellwig partnered up with Lance campers to create the Ultimate Overland (see our recent story What is Overlanding?) truck, which of course features Hellwig air suspension, helper springs and a rear sway bar upgrade. Add all of this with the Cummins powerplant in the Titan XD and you’re ready for adventure.
The Chevy Colorado ZH2 hydrogen-powered truck is even cooler in person than it was in the photos we first saw of the mid-sizer. The Army will be testing this stretched truck for potential military applications down the road. Of course, the upgraded suspension and upgraded BFGoodrich wheels also make it ready for the toughest terrain.
This FJ45 Toyota Land Cruiser wagon caught our eye every time we entered and exited the show. Although vintage Land Cruiser pricing has really gone through the roof in recent years, seeing one this clean makes us wish for our very own project vehicle to wrench on.
This is a monster that could be right at home in our SEMA: 7 Trucks, Jeeps That Will Never See the Dirt, but it’s just such a monster we can’t help but stare when we see it.
There were a handful of really clean builds of the new 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty, like this one at the Skyjacker booth this year. Fab Fours, who built the unique and crazy Kymera, had its hands on this build as well.
Toyota unveiled its plans to race the new Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, and this new race truck version that Camburg helped build really looks amazing. The TRD Pro race truck will make its debut next year at the 2017 Mint 400.
This Silverado is so clean looking it could’ve made our list of cleanest builds at this year’s show. Even though it’s more of a garage queen than a true off-roader, it’s still a sweet-looking truck.
This Ford F-150 build from A.R.E. was at the Ford booth last year. With more space to breath in the truck hall at the A.R.E. booth, we appreciated the look and overall complete package on this awesome off-road truck.
The Chevrolet Silverado High Country Concept truck isn’t just a SEMA build that you’ll never ever see at a dealership. In fact, Chevy made a point a noting just how many of its recent concept trucks have actually made it to production. The High Country features a number of things we plan to see on Silverados down the road, such as an LED-lit bowtie on the grille, one-piece bed cover, and storage compartments on the side of the bed – heck, there’s even a flip-up bed separator.
We’re not ready to call this truck a relic, but it’s no secret the 2017 Raptor will shift over to a new high-output 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Although the numbers look impressive for that twin-turbo engine, we still have a special place in our heart for the 6.2L V8 on the first-gen Raptor.
