If we had to pick a Chevy truck or SUV to take on the trails, the Chevy Trax wouldn’t be our first choice. That’s probably why Chevrolet looked to toughen up the compact crossover with the new Trax Active Concept, a truck it unveiled last night at a special reception prior to the start of the 2016 SEMA Show.
The Trax Active Concept gets additional ground clearance and a tougher stance thanks to a suspension lift and a wider track for added stability. Power to the ground comes via BFGoodrich T/A KO2 all-terrain tires that are fitted on 18-inch custom black wheels. Fender flares help complete the look and give the wheel wells a little more breathing room for the trail.
For additional storage for excursions a Thule roof rack is installed, which is fitted with an auxiliary LED light bar for added visibility at night. The concept SUV features a Satin Sandstorm paint job, and the front end is toughened up in the appearance department with red tow hooks to make them stand out (and it looks cool even if it reminds us of the same look Jeep has had for a few years on its SUVs). Added trail protection comes thanks to rocker rails and front and rear ski plates.
Chevy made it known a few times that its SEMA concepts are really done to gauge public interest, with the idea that some of them good actually see production at some point. Chevy has actually put quite a few concepts into production, such as the RealTree Silverado concept truck, and if the spy test photos we’ve seen we’re hoping the Colorado ZR2 concept gets put into production soon.
