Multiple news outlets are reporting this morning that Robert Gordon (Baja Bob), off-road racing veteran and father of NASCAR and off-road racer Robby Gordon, was found dead along with his wife Sharon yesterday afternoon. The cause of death is still being investigated, although multiple news outlets are calling the the deaths a murder-suicide.
The Orange County Register is reporting that police reported to the home of Bob Gordon yesterday at about 5 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from someone who said there were two bodies inside the Gordon home in Orange, California.
Robert “Baja Bob” Gordon, 69, had a long career in off-road racing in both desert and short-course events, winning the Baja 1000 with Malcolm Smith in 1987 and then adding another Baja 1000 victory with Robby and Robyn Gordon in 1990. Bob recently placed second overall behind son Robby and won the Vintage Open Buggy in the 2015 NORRA Mexican 1000.
Robby Gordon is currently co-owner and racer in the Stadium Super Trucks Series that has an event scheduled at this weekend’s Sand Sport Super Show in Southern California.
