The Gentleman’s Guide to Racing (GGTR) has covered some of the biggest off-road desert races here in North America, and now the GGTR duo, made up of Michael “Skiny” Power and Cultural Attache Spanish Tony, has set its sites on the NORRA Mexican 1000.
The story of the event, told in a Wes Anderson-style format, recaps a brief history of the Mexican 1000 to its current incarnation. Spanish Tony gets behind the wheel of the Spencer Low Nissan Class 1 truck for the race, enlisting George LaMonte, who helped save the race car from the trash heap, as his co-driver. The Gentleman’s Guide to Racing team also consists of off-road racer Darren Skilton, who of course is the “Party Bus Driver” for the crew, while Sly Alviar is listed as the “Chief Mechanic,” and Rowan Horncastle is “Guest Navigator” for the race.
The 21-minute long video blends tongue-and-cheek humor (like host Tony noting it’s great to be back in Baja, saying “this feels just lovely, it feels very different… it’s like swapping a girlfriend for the weekend”) while also offering an honest recap of the challenge and fun that comes with off-road racing, especially the vintage off-road racing that comes with the NORRA Mexican 1000.
