There’s a great story with every vehicle Jeep and Mopar brought out to the 50th Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Some of the vehicles explore the fantasy of possibility, but the Trailstorm Concept is firmly grounded in reality. In fact, what makes this rig cool is the fact that nearly all of its upgrades are Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) available in the Mopar catalog right now.
The Trailstorm Concept greets the world with a Digital Camouflage wrap designed to mimic the terrain of Moab, Utah. In spite of its stance, the Trailstorm isn’t exactly jacked up off the ground, as it only features a JPP 2-inch lift with Fox shocks and yet it manages to stuff 37-inch tires in each wheel well. The 37s in question are BFGoodrich KM2 mud-terrains mounted on JPP 17-inch prototype wheels. Jeep manages to fit the tires on the Trailstorm thanks to JPP High Top Fender flares. The High Tops will actually help accommodate up to 35s without a lift but will fit the aforementioned 37s with the 2-inch lift kit installed.
The Trailstorm features a low center of gravity that provides very composed and planted handling characteristics even when tackling obstacles. We were impressed with how smooth and comfortable the Trailstorm Concept felt while driving around the trails near Castle Rock. With front and rear Dana 44 axles fitted with a 4.10:1 gear ratio, the gearing certainly complements the larger rubber as well. Thanks to its low CofG, the Trailstorm doesn’t feel as though it’s lugging around 37s.
Up front and out back, the Trailstorm is fitted with JPP front and rear Rubicon steel bumpers, with the front featuring the JPP Rubicon Winch and winch guard. The Jeep/Mopar crew also added JPP LED headlights, fog lights and off-road lights for additional trail visibility. Added power comes from the JPP Cat-Back Performance Exhaust, and added stopping power for the extra weight of the larger tires can be credited to the JPP Big Brake Kit.
Inside the Trailstorm Concept, embroidered Katzkin seat covers are installed, along with custom-black interior accents. A new Jeep Cargo Management System on Swing Gate helps carry additional gear, and a JPP Swing Gate reinforcement shoulders the load of a full-sized spare.
